Fastest Sports Car in America

Italian crafted and American powered!



L.C. Kirby built this awesome drag car out of a very unique car called a Bandini, to run in Modified Sports Car.


The class rules for Modified Sports Cars were similar to Gasser class rules and many of these cars could legally run in either class. Open cars with non stock engines and other non OEM components were required to run in one of the Modified Sports Cars classes, some sports cars with tops could switch back and forth between a Gasser And Mod sports car.

According to the folks at FerrariExperts.com, only 75 Bandini cars were ever produced in different configurations and styles by Ilario Bandini, only 46 of these little racers are known to still exist.

Kirby was a Dallas Texas resident and raced multiple unique cars in his day. One being this a Cadillac powered Allard.

And this shot was taken at from what I can find, the Greater Southwest drag way in Fort Worth TX 1961.



As you can see he was constantly evolving re-powering and changing this unique little machine.


The Supercharged Cadillac powered Bandini and Kirby made enough of a splash in it’s day that Pennzoil put them on this ad.


At the time it’s was the “fastest sports car in America”
